First German Lutheran Preschool
First German Lutheran Preschool focuses on the “whole child” representing all the developmental and learning domains that God has given us: spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional. Through various learning experiences the children will develop: a concept of self and self worth, language skills, social interaction skills, independence, curiosity, self-expression, appreciation, problem-solving, large and fine motor coordination, creative expression, along with awareness and respect for the other’s experiences and backgrounds as well as their own. First German Lutheran Preschool uses a child-centered developmental goals and a thematic approach to implement a developmentally and culturally appropriate learning environment for young children.
Our Philosophy
Meet our Teacher and Director
Mrs. Angela Pechman
I grew up in Prairie du Chien, WI, and attended Grace Lutheran, Martin Luther Preparatory School, and Martin Luther College. Upon graduation, I was assigned to Salem Lutheran School in Milwaukee. I served as a substitute teacher in all elementary and preschool levels during my many years of being a stay at home mom. For the last 12 years, I have served the families of Risen Savior Christian Academy in Pooler, Georgia, as preschool teacher.
In 1999, I married my husband, Brian, a WELS pastor. God has placed us in Saskatchewan, Canada, Redding, CA, Savannah, GA, and now St. Paul’s, Howards Grove through his Callings.
God has blessed our 25 years together with five children. Caleb and his wife, Haley, along with our new granddaughter, Millie, live in Woodbury, MN. Abigail is a senior at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Naomi is a junior at Georgia Southern University in Savannah. Lydia will be a junior at Luther Prep School in Watertown, WI. And our youngest, Asher, will be a freshman at Luther Prep. I enjoy hosting friends and family, watching sports, hiking and trivia. I consider it a great privilege to serve Jesus and His people here in Manitowoc!

First German currently uses the Highscope Curriculum. The HighScope curriculum places an emphasis on adult-child interaction, learning environment, daily routine, and assessment in order to stimulate active learning. Active learning promotes children gaining knowledge through play and their interactions with the environment, peers, and adults. First German’s goal is to provide a warm and loving environment that encourages children to engage with different open-ended materials and give them the confidence to participate in different learning experiences.
